What should we wear?

familia_marcelo_valente_retrato_arte_moldura_tradicao_classico.jpg

At the studio Retratos por Marcelo Valente, we consider her portrait a celebration and a part of her family's history.  This is the most elegant and valuable portrait you will ever have in your life.

Over time, clothing styles change, and your attire can take attention away from your face and family, these are the most important aspects of a portrait.  Like a specialist studio, our unique background and lighting are custom designed to create a distinctive and refined work of art.  Capture a timeless look and the joy and love of your  family  is what we want.

We recommend that you wear more formal attire,  from ride (fine sport) to black tie, for shooting better and helping  to create a beautiful piece of art that you will enjoy and treasure forever.  We encourage families to dress in a sophisticated and elegant way, as if they were going to a wedding or a fine restaurant.  Present yourself in the best way to create a stunning work of art.

We don't hear from our customers that they would like to dress less formally, but that  they would have liked to dress better.  But, anyway, we want you to dress in the way that best  represents you and your family.

Please plan one outfit per person. Darker and more solid clothes make  have these blend into the background emphasizing skin tones and directing the vision primarily towards the face and eyes in the portrait.  We recommend choosing between 2-3 colors to establish a color palette that approximates  each family member, creating a greater sense of unity for their portrait.  Avoid clothes with patterns and logos.  For a more artistic and timeless look we recommend solid and textured fabrics.

As you make your choices ask yourself if you will  look stylish and trendy  20 years from now.

Men - Dark colored suit or costume (black, navy blue), tuxedo, white shirt and tie. The tie is optional, but if you choose to wear it, select one without too bright patterns.  Elegant dark jackets,  sweaters , and dark pants also fit well, although we recommend a nice suit or costume. Don't forget about the shaved or well made beard.

Women - Elegant party dresses are preferred.  Dark colors like black, navy blue, dark green or jewel tones  are recommended. The length should be below the knees and loose dresses are better suited. Sleeveless dresses make the arms look bigger and take the attention off the face.  A shawl or cape is recommended to complement the dress if it doesn't have a 3/4 or longer sleeve. Classic jewelry like diamonds and pearls  are recommended.

Young Girls - Dresses in dark tones or jewel tones (ruby red, sapphire blue, emerald green). For girls under the age of 6, cream and ivory colors are acceptable. Girls dresses are usually short and sleeveless.

Young Boys - Same as men, or knits, sweaters, dark colors, no print. If under 5, white shirt with bow tie is appropriate.

Ballet clothing, riding, musical instruments or some important hobbies are recommended to add value to the portrait.

If you want to capture any of these activities or a musical instrument,  contact us to see how we can transform them into an elegant portrait for your wishes.

Important: If you really want clothes  more casual, follow these guidelines for a successful portrait:

Use dark clothes, no print, with little information, coordinating the colors of the clothes. Thinking that this style is timeless, many, many years from now. It can't be something that's in fashion, it can't be dated.

Remember, it's your eyes and face that should draw attention in the portrait, not your outfit.

Important points to remember:

  • Arrive on time and be ready to go. We start as soon as you arrive and reserve 3 hours for you and your family;

  • The ideal is to arrive ready and  dresses to start. Don't worry about dents in your clothes, our artists do a spectacular job of making adjustments and removing any imperfections. If you really can't come dressed, no problem, you can get dressed in the studio, but your hair and makeup should be ready before you arrive;

  • Please, it is important that everyone is fed for the portrait session. We realized that when people are hungry, it is often visible on their faces and the sparkle in their eyes is not that strong.

  • Children and teenagers mirror the  parental attitudes. So come with a positive attitude, encourage and talk to the children about the importance of the portraits they are taking.  This is one of our main requests:  avoid blackmailing your children  do what you want. Blackmail changes attitudes and makes the portrait session more difficult for children.

  • Socks and shoes are often overlooked. Make sure you choose the correct socks and shoes and bring them to the session.

  • Don't forget to bring a comb or hairbrush for that finishing touch. Because of Covid-19 we cannot make them available for sharing among our customers.

  • We look forward to seeing you for the portrait session! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us or call us on whatsapp at 11 96642-5523

COMMON QUESTIONS

HOW TO PREPARE MY CHILDREN FOR A PORTRAIT OF  SUCCESS?

Make sure they have something to eat before the session. We recommend this for all ages so your eyes are shining for the time of the session. Create a positive emotion and excitement about the fun you'll have in the studio instead of making promises that have to wait until after your session.  Those promises will be the only thing on their minds.

DO WE NEED TO DRESS WELL?

We never hear families say that they should have dressed in less sophisticated and elegant clothes, but several times we hear that they should have planned better and chosen better clothes.  We strongly recommend that you come dressed as best you can, but we understand that you have to be yourself and love your portrait.

WHAT ABOUT HAIR, MAKEUP AND GLASSES?

We recommend that our clients schedule haircuts and go to the hairdresser  in advance as needed. Men, please remember to trim or shave your beard very close to the session so you don't get that late-afternoon beard. Women should finish their makeup as they normally do. Look for make-up that is more classic and not some trendy make-up style to keep a  look  timeless.  Some of our clients prefer to have their hair and makeup done by a professional to add more value to the experience.  Glasses are welcome if they are normally part of your look and style.  We want you to be yourself.

CAN WE TAKE OUR PETS?

Although we love pets and understand that they are important members of our families, at the moment, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate them in our space to participate in the portrait.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE BRING?

We're always on hand to help you choose your outfit, but if you're still unsure of what to bring, bring an extra option, a shawl or something that can change the outfit of your choice, just in case. A hairbrush, comb, touch-up lipstick are always a good idea.

Selecting your portrait:

Selecionando o seu Retrato

Planning the artwork to display in your home

We'd love to see where you're planning to put your portrait!

Please stick an A4 paper in the space where you plan on putting your portrait on the wall.

Then go to the opposite wall, place your wall against the wall and take a picture of the wall where you pasted the paper.  Include as much of the environment as you can to give us an idea of the context of the place.  We asked for THREE wall options and would love for you to send them to estudio@marcelovalente.art.br before your session.
